Homer L. Chin, MD, MS

Dr. Chin is formally
trained in medical informatics and has over fifteen years
of practical experience in the development and
implementation of clinical information systems.
Dr. Chin helped lead the
selection and implementation of a comprehensive outpatient
electronic medical record. |

Kaiser
Permanente Northwest won the 1998 Davies CPR Award, the
1999 Voh’s Award for
Quality Innovation, and the 2000 AMGA Acclaim Award - for
work done in implementing the EMR. In addition to the EMR, Kaiser
Permanente Northwest is one of the leaders in the use of
web technologies, electronic patient-physician
communication, and population databases in healthcare. The
eight regions of the Kaiser Permanente Program are
currently implementing KP HealthConnect—a comprehensive
set of integrated clinical and business systems—building
on the pioneering work done in the Northwest.
Dr. Chin received his Bachelor of Science
degree in Bioengineering from UC Berkeley and his MD from
Dartmouth College. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship
in Medical Informatics at Stanford University prior to
joining Kaiser Permanente. Dr. Chin is a board member of
the Oregon Chapter of the Health Information and
Management Systems Society (HIMSS), served as Program
Chair for the HIMSS Davies Recognition Award in 2001, is a
member of the College of Health Information Management
Executives (CHIME), and a Fellow in the American College
of Medical Informatics.
He currently serves on the board of the
Oregon Community Health Information Network (OCHIN).
In addition to overseeing information systems, Dr. Chin is
a board certified internist who continues to practice
medicine part-time, using the information systems that he
helped put in place. |
